Originally from California, Natalie Tyler has lived on the East Coast for five years. She studied in California and the Academy of Fine Art in Bologna, Italy. Fifteen years ago, she began sculpting. Her work started out figuratively. More and more she became inspired by nature, learning from its patterns, shapes, and transformations. Investigating and researching the biology behind the initial inspirations for her sculptures, she uses the natural elements as a philosophical metaphor for the human condition. She sculpts mostly in bronze. When casting her bronze sculptures, she pushed the limits. Bronze is known for being a dense medium, yet she uses the metal delicately. For the last several years she has been looking to incorporate light and color into her sculptures. Light and color represent life and transformations. Using resins and most recently casting in lead crystal, her recent sculptures consist of more than one medium. She continues to cast her work mostly in Northern California, as an artist in residence at the Mendocino Art Center and live the rest of the year in New York Area. |
